Records will fall as Mobile International Speedway hosts the first full night of racing in the 2013 season-opener, highlighted by the Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series. Saturday will also see the return of the Island Motors II Bombers, Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman and Praytor Realty Super Stocks.

The Must See Xtreme Sprint Car Series is considered one the most intense forms of racing on the planet, featuring some of the fastest cars and daredevil drivers from all over the country. The Michigan-based tour boasts some of the greatest names in open-wheel racing and will attempt to set a new track record on Saturday at Alabama’s Fastest Half-Mile.

Winged sprints will easily surpass 100 mph on Saturday with speeds reaching up to 130 mph on the backstretch – over 800-plus horsepower. The Xtreme Sprint Cars are expected to run up to three seconds faster than the fastest Mobile Super Late Models, making them the fastest cars that will compete at the Speedway all season.

Mobile’s current speed record stands at 13.919 seconds (124.849 mph) and was set by Saucier, Mississippi’s Todd Fayard just last season. Over 25 sprints are expected to qualify for Saturday’s race, the second event on the Must See Racing calendar.

Amongst those on the entry list is former IZOD IndyCar Series star and current team owner Davey Hamilton. He also fields entries for Mike Larrison and his son — Davey Hamilton Jr. Defending race winner Brian Olson will debut with his own team, Olson Racing, after leaving Hamilton’s stable during the off-season.

The Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series has 15 events scheduled for 2013 including the season-opening race on Friday night at Pensacola’s Five Flags Speedway. The Series is represented by defending champion JoJo Helberg, Hamilton, Fayard and standouts Aaron Pierce and Jeff Bloom.

Grandstands open at 4:00PM on Saturday with grandstand admission: $20 for adults; $15 for seniors, Student 12-17,  military and policemen $10 for children 6-11; and ages 5-and-under are free when accompanied by adult. The pit gate opens at 1 PM for local cars and spectators and pit passes run $25. Everyone under the age of 19 must have a signed parental consent form.
