ARCA Mobile 200 Kicks Off Race Week With USO’s Ride 2 Recovery
Another group of drivers will be racing their way through Mobile during the week of the ARCA Mobile 200, only this group of combat hardened wounded warriors will be peddling their way on bicycles along the GulfCoast with a pit stop in Mobile on March 4th.
“These wounded warriors have had their lives and families severely impacted by their very serious injuries, but they have worked hard and made a long ride to recovery. Finishing this 300+ mile ride is a remarkable achievement and inspiration to all, so we look forward to the opportunity for Mobile to show its support for our troops. Over 100 wounded servicemen and women riders will take part in the Ride 2 Recovery Gulf Coast Challenge that will begin in New Orleans trekking to Tallahassee in a 7 day ride.
“We can think of no better way to kick off race week than a salute to our men and women who have served our country so faithfully,” offered Tommy Praytor ARCA-Mobile 200 promoter. “We hope everyone will take time out of their busy schedules to recognize these brave men and women as they cycle through Mobile. We’ve asked all riders who can make it back on Saturday to become part of our pre-race ceremonies on race day.”
The group is due to cross the Alabama state line at 1:30 pm on Monday, March 4th where the Official Robinson Brothers Volvo S60 Pace Car will meet them and lead them to the official hotel of the ARCA-Mobile 200, the Holiday Inn in Tillman’s Corner at 2:30 pm. The ARCA Mobile 200 will also be the official sponsor of the Ride 2 Recovery Casino Night later that evening at 6pm. (cost)
Mobile driver Thomas ‘Moose’ Praytor will be at the hotel Monday afternoon with his ARCA Mobile 200/Hixson Motorsports Ford Fusion that he drove in the Lucas Oil 200 Presented by MAVTV in Daytona on February 16th.
The group will then depart Mobile Tuesday morning and continue onto Orange Beach, Ala., after they meet with Mobile Mayor Sam Jones. They will also visit the USS Alabama at BattleshipPark before they head out of town.
The Ride 2 Recovery Gulf Coast Challenge begins on March 2nd in New Orleans, La., and takes participants along the Gulf of Mexico to reach their destination of Tallahassee, Fla., on March 8th. The Ride 2 Recovery is produced by the Fitness Challenge Foundation, (501C3) in partnership with the Military and VA Volunteer Service Office, to benefit Mental and Physical Rehabilitation Programs for our country’s wounded veterans that feature cycling as the core activity. Held in partnership with the Fitness Challenge Foundation, the R2R raises money to support Spinning Recovery Labs and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help injured veterans overcome obstacles they face.
The ARCA-Mobile 200 is set for March 2nd-9th, 2013. An open practice for the ARCA cars will start race week on Saturday March 2nd. Race weekend will kick in to high gear on Thursday March 7th at the USS Alabama, followed by the Causeway Seafood Jubilee and wrapped up with the Home Mortgage America Green Flag Party at Grand Central on Dauphin Street. Practice and qualifying for the ARCA cars is slated for Friday with local divisions battling Friday night. Fans will have a full day at the track with the green flag flying for the ARCA-Mobile 200 at 2:00PM on March 9th.
