HOWELL GRABS THE MODIFIED TROPHY; BUTTRICK TAKES THE SPORTSMEN RACE; DAY DOMINATES THE PRO TRUCKS; CORRY AGAIN IS BEST OF THE BOMBERS
The 2013 Season resumed at Mobile International Speedway Saturday Night and when the final checkered flag waved at 10:03PM, the pits were abuzz with talk of the action that took place over the 3 previous hours. The Alabama Pipe & Supply Modified Feature, got off to a wild start when Donnie Hamrac park his new Mod into the front stretch wall, victim of a broken left rear hub. Milton, Florida driver Chris Cotto led the restart and stayed on the point until contact with Donald Crocker sent him spinning into the turn 3 infield. Crocker was penalized on the restart, which put teammate Brandon Howell at the front of the pack where he stayed until the end. Crocker rebounded to finish second, while veteran Dave Mader III brought home third in his debut in the Kane Motorsports entry.
Jay Jay Day picked up his first feature win in the new Pro Truck Division, outdueling Chopper Stagner to the line. Super Stock transplant Howard Langham finished third. The Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman provided a barn burner of a race, but eventually yielded the same results Gulf Coast race fans have come to expect. Steve Buttrick, won the war, but had to battle Mark Barnhill the entire distance. Red Dog Reynolds actually nabbed second place from Barnhill prior to the checkered. Jayme Correy showed he will be the man to beat in the Island Motors II Bombers for 2013,as he led Matt Jackson and T.J. Thompson into the O’Reilly’s Victory Lane.
M.I.S. will return to action on Saturday Night, April 20th, with the Midwest Cooling Towers making their 2013 debut with double features. The Praytor Realty Super Stocks will also return, along with Sportsman and Bombers, all beginning at the all new 7PM start time.
