At the unofficial midway point of the season at Mobile International Speedway, local teams are looking towards either capturing the season championship or winning races in order to establish momentum for the next season.

That’s certainly the case for Pro Truck division championship leader Jay Jay Day who is looking for both wins and momentum to extend his four-point title advantage over Chopper Stagner. The Trucks have only raced at Mobile twice this season and the teams are still in the feeling out process this early in their season.

Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman

Johnny Greene is just now finding his footing this season in the Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman division. After tearing up a car in the division last September, Greene built a car from scratch and has finished in the middle of the pack for most of the season.

Greene is a former winner, twice at Mobile and once at Pensacola, knows how to get to victory lane – he just needs his equipment to age to the level of his skill and willpower.

“My year has been kind of crappy,” Greene said. “We’ve had some mid-pack success but have continued to work on the car and will be at both five flags on Friday night and Mobile on Saturday if we have anything left.”

Greene is hoping to chase down championship leader Steve Buttrick and defending titlist, Brannon Fowler on Saturday night — the mainstays of the division. Buttrick has won all but two feature races this season and has a remarkable 129 point lead over Fowler.

Island Motor II Bombers

Jayme Corry continues to lead the way in the bomber division at Mobile International Speedway, amassing a 149 point lead over BJ Leytham and 156 over Matt Jackson. But Corry has started to regress in recent races, opening the door for new faces to compete for poles and race victories. Will that trend continue on Saturday or will Corry reestablish his prior dominance?
