A test and tune session is the first order of business this week as the stock cars crank up preparing for action this weekend. All classes of cars are welcome, as the pit opens at 5 pm and the track will be hot until 9 pm.
Could it be the D. J. Vanderley show Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway?
The 18-year old from Mobile has captured the last four Pro Late Model Feature events and leads the entry list for race six of the current season.
In addition to the Pro Late Models, the Super Stock, Sportsmen and Bombers will also be in the schedule for the 8 pm program.
Vanderley holds the point lead for the pro late models with 304 for the season, thirty points in front of David Jones also of Mobile.
Donald Crocker of Citronelle is third in the standings with 272 points which reflects a victory earlier this year.
Josh Bragg of Helena, Ms and Elliott Massey of Lucedale, MS round out the top five.
The Pro Late Models will qualify beginning at 7 pm. D. J. Vanderley holds the current track record at 17.279 seconds for one lap on the half mile banked Mobile International Speedway course.
Also schedule to qualify Saturday night are the Super Stocks who will be racing for the fifth time this season.
A thirty-lap feature will highlight the night for the Super Stocks.
Howard Langham of Irvington, AL holds the season points lead headed into the program with 253 points, ten better than Bobby Baria of Grand Bay who olds second in the 2010 points chase.
Shannon Jackson of Pascagoula, MS is next with 237 as Darin Mathews of Pascagoula, MS 229 and Jessie Reid of Eight-mile 223 round out the top five in points for the season.
The Sportsmen class will contest preliminary heat races to determine their starting order in a scheduled 20 lap feature race.
Brannon Fowler of Molino, FL is the current point’s leader with 453 for the season that has witnesses seven feature races completed.
Theodore’s Michael Moody is second in the season point chase with 431.
Jonathan Langham of Irvington has managed to cross the finish line first three times on the year has 419 points won in his quest for another season championship. Langham has won the Sportsmen class season championship the past two years.
Lee Reynolds of Mobile with 371 and David McDade of Mon Louis Island with 291 points for the year round out the top five.
Johnathan Day of Mobile has captured the checkers on four of the seven feature races this season in the Bomber class and will lead the entry list Saturday night.
As a result he leads the season championship title chase with 482 points.
Jay Jay Day of Theodore is second in points won with 401, while Jayme Corry of Theodore at 381, Donnie Phillips also of Theodore with 376 and Rusty Powell, Jr. of Semmes at 368 complete the top five.
Racing and Security officials of Mobile Internatioanl Speedway have suspended drivers Jay Jay Day in the Bomber division and Jeff Smith in the Sportsmen class for infractions of unsportsmanlike conduct. The suspensions are the result of separate incidents that took place during the June 26, 2010 race meet.
Each driver will be suspended for one meet, has been fined $100.00 and will be on probation for the remainder of the 2010 racing season.
The pit gate will open at 3 pm Saturday afternoon, qualifying is set for 6:45 and racing is slated to start at 8 pm.
The grand stand gates open at 5 pm.
