Kids Night

 

        July 31, 2010 will be the next race event at Mobile International Speedway.

        It will be “Kids Night” with youngsters up to and including those eleven years old admitted to the grand stand free.

        Not only will the children up to eleven years of age be admitted to the grand stand free, but they will also have an opportunity to ride in a race car or the pace car and take a lap or two around the half mile racing facility.

        The deal is each youngster wanting to ride in the race car or pace car must present a good report card from this past school year showing his promotion to the next grade for the coming school season.

       

        Also on the program will be the Midwest Cooling Tower Services Pro Late models that will qualify and run a 35 lap feature race.

        The Alabama Pipe and Supply modified will race preliminary heat events leading to a 25 lap feature race.

        The Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsmen division will set up their feature race starting grid by qualifying with the invert of starting positions to be determined by a roll of the dice.

        Finally the Island Motors II Bombers will run heat races and a 15 lap feature race.

        Race time is 8 pm.

 

July 17 Results

 

        For the fifth time this racing season in the pro late model division it was D. J. Vanderley of Mobile crossing the finish line in front of the pack to take the winner share of the purse and claim the top trophy at Mobile International Speedway.

        The 18-year old driving sensation started his weekend with a Pro Late Model Victory over Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola.

        The Friday night victory was his forth for the year at that facility.

        The fifth consecutive win strengthen the season points lead he holds to 55 over runner up David Jones also of Mobile.

        Vanderley has a season total of 369 points in his quest to capture a season driving championship.

        Earlier in the evening, during qualifying the Auburn bound Engineering School candidate recorded a fast time of 17.425 seconds for one lap on the half mile track.

        In the thirty-five lap feature race Vanderley in the familiar 72 started on the outside front row with Jones on the pole the result of a position invert determined by a dice roll after qualifying.

 

Caution Flags

 

         The feature race was marred by a couple of caution flags the first of which flew when Elloitt Massey of Lucedale, MS had an engine expire on the front straight. 

        The mishap scattered engine pieces and parts over a large part of the speedway forcing a red flag condition halting the field on the back stretch while safety crews cleaned the speedway surface.

        Moments later on the restart of the race, coming out of turn four as the green flag waved the 64 of David Jones had problems getting up to speed forcing the trailing field of cars to started piling up behind him.  The worst of the carnage occurring to Thomas Praytor in the 28 who was under full power and had no room to avoid the Jones car and could not stop in time to avoid contact.

        The end result was significant damage to both race cars.

        The pro late models will return to Mobile International Speedway July 31 in a 35 lap feature race.

 

Winners

 

       Eight Miles’ Jessie Reid grabbed his first Super Stock victory of the year in the 30 lap event.

        Bobby Baria of Grand Bay was runner up.

        The Sportsmen division feature race was won by Jonathan Langham of Irvington, his forth feature win of the season out of  eight race weekends.

        Langham also posted a win in the first of two preliminary heat races as Bubba Winslow of Cantonment, FL was the winner of record in the second preliminary race.

        The night of stock car racing concluded with the bomber division feature that was won by Johnathan Day of Mobile.

        Brandon Tipton, also of Mobile was runner-up.

        Day and Tipton also recorded victories in the duel preliminary heat races held earlier in the evening.
